About Us

Worship Puerto Rico a project under the parent company Worship Inc. . In November 2017 St. Johns AME in Raleigh, NC set out to fund a recovery effort to help Puerto Rico rebuild after Hurricane Maria devastated the island and its economy. They gave the funds to Cinnamon Ruth Leggett, Worship Leader now located in Los Angeles, CA . Self funding her trip Cinnamon assessed the needs of the people and distributed the funds to those identified in Puerto Rico. Later organizing a movement called Worship Puerto Rico, the recovery efforts continued. Now, going into its fifth year, Worship Puerto Rico is focussed on preparedness and distribution of emergency bags called “salva mochilas”. While siezing opportunities to provide helpful education that will help Puerto Ricans survive natural disasters, WPR is building hope through service and “love in action”, stated Christina Shivers, 2021 WPR team member. Every March a team of 12-14 volunteers return to Puerto Rico to continue community efforts distributing the life saving bags.

Yearly WPR provides 100 families in Guánica and Guayanilla, Puerto Rico with emergency bags (salva mochilas) that include life saving emergency supplies such as duct tape, rope, solar powered flashlights, trash bags, tooth brushes, toothpaste, sunscreen, bug spray, cold packs and power packs for phone charging. The salva mochilas are waterproof keeping elements safe and dry until put into use. Each bag contains a how to guide describing the non-conventional use of the items in the bags and gives suggestions for items that can be added to the bags along with a personal story from the team members.
